As a family of four we get a chance once a year, between everyone's busy schedules, to get away for a week in different countryside and virtually every popular destination in the tropics. But our favorites, by far, are our winter weeks in Tulum: where white sand beaches and unmatched ocean views welcome us the same every time.
Located just 78 miles south of Cancun, Tulum is one of Mexico's most popular destinations on the Yucatan Peninsula. Visitors can treat themselves to the ancient Mayan ruins of the Quintana Roo Coast or take a stroll down Tulum beach house and be captivated with the beauty of Mexico's finest white sand beaches. Tulum offers some of the best reef diving and snorkeling in the Mayan Riviera, together with exciting cave diving. The world's longest coral reef protects the bay and offers endless opportunities for swimming, scuba diving and exploring in two sea kayaks.
And if you're not up for diving or snorkeling, maybe you should look into ocean kite boarding or kite surfing.When looking to a vacation with family, accommodations are arguably the most important factor. Sure shopping sights and wandering play important roles, but in the end, if your staying in a less than acceptable place, the negativity will rub off on every family member. Thus, our beach house in Tulum has a separate kitchen, so we never have to leave unless we want to explore one of the many adventurous activities that Tulum has. For dinners, we'd often buy local lobsters from a man down the beach and grill them. With the sunset and a few bottles of wine, our family felt closer than ever.
I would highly suggest visiting Tulum and not necessarily staying in a hotel, but rather a Tulum Beach House. It allows for more space and privacy for the family, as well as bringing own personal charm. Being extensive travelers ourselves, we constantly are in awe of Tulum. This splendid vacation is so close to our home, yet so far from ordinary.
